You are the father to the fatherless and the comfort to the childless.
In your great mercy, hear the cry of my heart.
For all that you have given, for all that you have taken away,
and for all that you have withheld,
that I might grow in the likeness of your Son,
I give you praise and thanks.
In your endless wisdom, withhold nothing from me,
whether pain, suffering, or immeasurable joy,
that would cause me throw myself at the foot of your throne in worship, praise, and need.
Set your guard about my heart from the warring bitterness and discouragement.
Teach my heart the song of your comfort.
Teach my soul to hope in you alone.
Carry me in my weakness,
for in it your power is shown to be perfect
and your glory declared.
Give me a desire for you that is greater than all else.
Guide my heart in its pursuit of you.
And, God, though I am so very undeserving, would that you would grant me the desire of my heart.
